Some pics of our class
Last Tuesday we had a visitor in our classroom: Miss Adriana! She came and took some pictures of the "water" project closure. See how we work in class, share our views and contribute to revise what we learnt during these two months! Great experience!
SS: Culture (Revision)
These are two videos we saw in class last month when we covered the unit on "culture". Revise the most relevant elements of culture menioned in the first video and try to describe what our culture is like (Argentinian, Porteña).
Focus on:
1. MUSIC: What are the typical music genres of our country? What kind of music do we/you listen to?
2. SPORTS: Which are the most popular sports in Argentina?
3. ENTERTAINMENT: What do people do to have fun? Where do they go? What do they do?
4. FOOD: Which are our typical dishes/foods?
5. LANGUAGE: Is our language exactly the same as the ones in Spain or in Mexico? What are the differences? Why do we speak Spanish?
6. RELIGION: What is the official religion of our country, according to our constitution? Are there other religions in our country?
7. TRADITIONS: What makes Argentines/Porteños different? What do we celebrate? What are our national celebrations like?

LIT: Shape poems
These are the two shape poems we read in class. But what is a shape poem? It is a poem (poetry) with a particular form. The form of the poem gives us information about its topic (theme, content).
In the case of "Rain" by Claudia Golden, we can see that the poem makes the shape of a tap (or faucet) and a drop of water coming out of it. This way we know the poem is connected with water.
Similarly, we can understand what the poem is about just by looking at the form in "Raindrop" (Anonymous = we don't know who the author of this text is).
Have a look at the texts and see it by yourself!
Leave us a comment! Which one did you like better? Why?

Rain
by Claudia Golden
Rain
Like a faucet the water fell. When will it stop?
I cannot tell. Maybe God should turn
the spigot, all
the way to off.
I
am
not a
fish, so
what I really
really wish, is once
this water goes away
I can go outside to play
but if this water hangs
about, I am afraid
I won't get out
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raindrop
Anonymous
A
drop
of rain is
like a sudden
knock at the door.
Unexpectedly, yet often
welcomed with a smile. It
can brighten your day or ruin
your plans. It can make you laugh
or make you sad. Whether the raindrop
is moving fast or slow, or is big or small,
it always gets everyone’s attention. A rain-
drop contains many secrets. It is a bubble of
anticipation and surprise. It cleanses the earth,
it feeds the flowers, and fills the holes. The
raindrop is never silent. It bangs on the
roof, spatters on the window, or
splashes into a puddle.
A raindrop.

NS: Water cycle (Revision)
Enter this site if you want to revise the basic ideas of the water cycle in nature. It is a simple game to recreate the sequence of events which take place in the process. Hope you find it interesting!
April 23rd: One day, three celebrations!
Today is a very special day. We have three celebrations ahead! Find out what these three celebrations are and write them in a comment here with your name.
Here go some clues about the three events:
Event #1: it's connected with libraries...
(W_ _ _ _ B _ _ _ Day)
Event #2: it's related to what we learn together, and the greatest English writer ever...
(E _ _ _ _ _ _ L _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Day)
Event #3: it's a religious festivity, related to England as well...
(S _. G _ _ _ _ _ 's Day)
First three to write the right answers will be awarded on Monday 27th April! Ready, set, go!

Saturday, April 25
Here is the list of winners!
1. Santiago
2. Santino
3. Alelí
4. Luca (special merit for extra effort)
Well done!
WORLD BOOK DAY
In Paris in 1995, UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) chose April 23rd to commemorate the deaths of William Shakespeare (English), Miguel de Cervantes (Spanish) and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega (Peruvian, Viceroyalty of Peru). They all died on the very same day, in 1616.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE DAY
Again, we commemorate England's greatest playwright and poet: William Shakespeare (1564-1616). People think his birthday was also on April 23rd. He created around 1500 words for the English language in his works. He is celebrated for his tragedies, comedies, historical plays and sonnets. His most famous line is from a tragedy called Hamlet: "To be, or not to be: that is the question".
ST. GEORGE'S DAY
St. George is the patron saint of England. He was a Roman soldier said to slay a dragon. His red cross on white back forms the national flag of England.

Daily Journal: What is it!?
The daily journal is a short report of the activities we do in class.
Every day, we will choose two secretaries who will be in charge of keeping a record of what we do during the afternoon. On that same day, both of them must send me an email to mrjames4grade@gmail.com with the report of the day. Later in the evening, I will upload the daily report to our blog.
It's a good way to sum up (to summarise, to repeat) the day's work if you want to remember what we did or if you were absent.
It's another tool to keep us in touch. Isn't it cool?
See you tomorrow,
Mr James
