WORLD BOOK DAY
In Paris in 1995, UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) chose April 23rd to commemorate the deaths of William Shakespeare (English), Miguel de Cervantes (Spanish) and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega (Peruvian, Viceroyalty of Peru). They all died on the very same day, in 1616.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE DAY
Again, we commemorate England's greatest playwright and poet: William Shakespeare (1564-1616). People think his birthday was also on April 23rd. He created around 1500 words for the English language in his works. He is celebrated for his tragedies, comedies, historical plays and sonnets. His most famous line is from a tragedy called Hamlet: "To be, or not to be: that is the question".
ST. GEORGE'S DAY
St. George is the patron saint of England. He was a Roman soldier said to slay a dragon. His red cross on white back forms the national flag of England.
I am Santiago Sesin. The firs one is "World Book Day" and the number three is "St. Geroge's Day".
